Breeders' Cup: Juvenile favorites only lose without jockey - Los Angeles Times

The favorites for Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile have something in common besides having won two of their three races. In the races they lost, the horses unseated their jockeys.

Eight Rings dropped Drayden Van Dyke in the Del Mar Futurity and Dennis’ Moment dumped Robby Albarado in a maiden race at Churchill Downs.

“We were in the paddock with the owners’ group and somebody says, ‘We can’t lose the Del Mar Futurity unless the jockey falls off,’” said Bob Baffert, trainer of Eight Rings. “When I heard that, I said, ‘Why did you say that?’ [In] Racing, a thousand things can go wrong. Every year something happens that has never happened before. I was sitting there in disbelief. … The horse could have gotten up and hit the fence. But he actually got up and galloped around the field and went right on by them. So, he thinks he’s undefeated.”

While Eight Rings’ problem was self-created, Dennis’ Moment seemed to be the victim of bad luck.

“Another horse came over on top of him and about dropped him and [Albarado] came off,” Romans said. Dennis’ Moment, like Eight Rings, kept running.

“He ran down those horses,” Romans said. Whether he got there or not, he got awful close … after stumbling and ripping off his shoe and running down those horses. Then he just went to the outrider and pulled himself up. It was amazing.”

Baffert made some adjustments to his colt.

“After that Del Mar incident we put the blinkers on him because he’s still a little green so he’s looking around a lot,” Baffert said. “What I like about him and all my good horses is that they don’t get tired. That’s what separates the really good ones.”

Dennis’ Moment is 8-5 on the morning line and Eight Rings is 2-1. They both have new riders. Irad Ortiz, Jr. will ride for Romans and John Velazquez for Baffert.

Last race for Bellafina

Bellafina, once considered the top 3-year-old filly, may be making her last racing start in the $1 million Filly and Mare Sprint on Saturday. She is entered in the Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale.

“It’s not guaranteed that this will be her final start,” trainer Simon Callaghan. If she runs very well, that might change. She’s one of the best fillies I’ve ever trained.”

There were high expectations after she won six of seven races culminating with the Santa Anita Oaks. But when she went to Kentucky for the Oaks, she finished a disappointing fifth as the favorite. Her next two races were a third and fourth.

The Sprint is a seven-furlong race. “I think this is her ideal distance,” Callaghan said.

Back-to-back Classic wins?

Trainer John Sadler, who entered last year’s Breeders’ Cup 0-for-41, is hoping to repeat in the Classic after winning last year with Accelerate. His entry is Higher Power, who romped to an easy 5 1/4-length win in the Pacific Classic.

“He’s a big, sound horse and he doesn’t have any issues,” Sadler said. “What’s touting him to me is that we’ve had no blips on the screen. Everything has gone smooth, so we’re happy with him.”

Higher Power followed the Pacific Classic with a third-place finish in the Awesome Again at Santa Anita. He finished behind Mongolian Groom and McKinzie, both of whom are in the Classic.

The 'Game Of Thrones' Star Responsible For THE Coffee Cup Has Been Revealed - Bustle

While Daenerys and Arya may have been fan-favorites, the true star of Game of Thrones was actually a coffee cup — specifically the mysterious Starbucks cup that accidentally appeared in the background of an episode in the HBO show's final season. Now, five months after the episode aired, fans finally know who caused coffee cup-gate, thanks to Emilia Clarke. Clarke revealed the Game of Thrones star responsible for the coffee cup and no, it's not her, despite co-star Sophie Turner previously trying to blame her.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, the host asked Clarke to comment on Turner's accusation, which she made on the same talk show back in May. While Clarke acknowledged she'd heard Turner's claim, she decided to name the actual culprit behind the cup: Conleth Hill, or as GoT fans may know him, the Spider. How fitting that the Master of Whisperers was the one keeping this secret from everyone.

According to Clarke, Hill recently made the confession during a recent pre-Emmys party. She recalled, "Conleth — who plays Varys, who's sitting next to me in that scene — he pulls me aside and he's like, 'Emilia, I gotta tell you something... The coffee cup is mine.'" He also apologized to Clarke, she said, since she'd been the one blamed.

Turner made the accusation against Clarke, half-jokingly, during her own appearance on Fallon's show. The host found a candid Instagram photo of Turner on set holding an identical cup and asked if she was behind the crime. "Let's clear this up," Turner said. "That's in a different scene, and also, we all have the same cups for all of our water and tea and everything, so I'm gonna just go with, I mean look who it's placed in front of. Emilia Clarke. She's the culprit."

Despite now proving herself innocent, Clarke did admit that one factor of Hill's confession could be a fluke. "He might have been drunk, but he said it, so I'm gonna take that," she said.

No matter who's actually responsible for the gaffe, it amused viewers and non-fans alike — and even HBO got in on the action. "The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake," the network said in a statement. "Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea." The only thing that would've made the blooper even better is if the cup ended up winning the Iron Throne in the finale.

$2 million Juvenile tops opening day of Breeders' Cup - USA TODAY

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Breeders' Cup weekend kicks off with five stakes Friday, topped by the $2 million Juvenile, as Santa Anita hosts the world championships for a record 10th time.

Dennis' Moment is the early 8-5 favorite in the 1 1/16-mile Juvenile, whose winner is tabbed as the horse to watch heading into next year's Kentucky Derby.

The season-ending Breeders' Cup goes off amid intense scrutiny at the track where 36 horses have died since last December, prompting safety and medication reforms by track ownership and outrage from the public and animal rights activists.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, wrote the California Horse Racing Board urging that every precaution available be taken to ensure the horses' safety.

"I believe this weekend presents a critical test for the future of horse racing in California and in the United States," Feinstein wrote in the letter released by her office Friday. "If horse racing cannot be conducted in a safe and humane manner that protects the life and safety of horses and jockeys, it may be time to re-examine the future of this sport in our state and in our country."

Santa Anita's dirt and turf courses are being inspected daily for consistency and safety. The only allowed medication on Friday and Saturday is Lasix, an anti-bleeding medication.

Every horse in the championships has undergone at least three physical exams and been observed during training hours. Any horse whose race fitness is called into question faces additional testing and exams. A horse that flunks will be scratched.

"What sets us apart from a lot of other events is the tremendous amount of care and transparency that goes into a Breeders' Cup," said Dora Delgado, executive vice president of racing and nominations.

"If we can't put a product out there that gives our fans and betting public a sense of confidence than we're doing it wrong."

Friday's races all featuring 2-year-olds are a prelude to another nine on Saturday, culminating in the $6 million Classic where McKinzie is the 3-1 favorite for Baffert. The top horses from the U.S. and Europe as well as South Korea's first entry will be running for $30 million in purses over both days.

The Juvenile features an eight-horse field.

Trained by Dale Romans, Dennis' Moment is the son of two-time BC Classic winner Tiznow. He's won two of three starts, including a 19 1/4-length win at Kentucky's Ellis Park and a 1 3/4-length win in the Iroquois at Churchilll Downs, where he beat another Juvenile rival Scabbard.

Dennis' Moment is the first favorite Romans has had going into the Breeders' Cup.

"It's a whole different type of pressure," he said.

Baffert, the five-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer, has a top contender, too.

He'll saddle Eight Rings, who has won two of three starts and is the 2-1 second choice in the Juvenile. He won his most recent start at Santa Anita by six lengths.

"He just has raw, raw talent," Baffert said. "He's fast. He can get out of trouble. What I like about him and all my good horses is that they don't get tired. That's what separates the really good ones."

In the $2 million Juvenile Fillies, Donna Veloce is the 3-1 favorite. She was sold for $800,000 last winter in Florida.

"We have very high aspirations for her," trainer Simon Callaghan said.

Baffert has a strong contender in Bast, the co-second choice at 7-2. She's coming off a neck victory at Santa Anita on Sept. 27, her first time trying two turns.

"She's really fast, but you don't know what they're going to do when they come around that second turn," Baffert said. "It's amazing. Some of them it hits them right between the eyes, that distance, that second turn. We have an edge because we've already done it. That's a big thing."

In the other $1 million races on Friday:

— Four Wheel Drive is the 3-1 favorite in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.

— Ireland-bred Arizona is the 5-2 favorite in the Juvenile Turf

— Ireland-bred Albigna is the 9-2 favorite in the Juvenile Fillies Turf

CenturyLink Field - fireworks - playoffs
USA Today Sports Images

The venue is booked, as CenturyLink Field in Seattle will host the 2019 MLS Cup Final on Nov. 10.

Looking to get a ticket for the title game between the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC? The Sounders announced general ticket sales for the final will take place beginning at 1 pm ET on Friday. Those interested in purchasing tickets are asked to fill out the form in advance on the Sounders' website to receive ticket alerts.

CenturyLink Field is one of the highest-capacity venues in MLS, and held many of the league's attendance records until Atlanta United began playing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017. Last year's MLS Cup Final, in Atlanta, set an all-time attendance record for standalone MLS game, with 73,019.

Local radio announcer Jackson Felts announced on Thursday the stadium will be fully open for the game.

The Sounders' attendance record in MLS play came in 2013, when 67,385 came out for a game against bitter rivals Portland Timbers. With Seattle soccer-crazy for the Sounders, even with the large capacity, expect the MLS Cup Final to be a hot ticket ahead of Nov. 10.

Favorites, top contenders for Day 1 of Breeders' Cup - USA TODAY

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — The early favorites and top contenders in Friday's five Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita:

JUVENILE TURF SPRINT

Purse: $1 million

Distance: 5 furlongs

Favorite: Four Wheel Drive, 3-1 odds

Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

Trainer: Wesley Ward

Record and earnings this year: 2 wins in 2 starts; $142,500

Four Wheel Drive leads the Ward brigade in the first of five stakes for 2-year-olds on opening day of Breeders' Cup. Ward also sends out a pair of fillies to face the boys: Kimari (7-2) and Cambria (12-1), giving him three of the 12 runners in the field. Four Wheel Drive, a son of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, has easily won stakes at Colonial Downs and Belmont Park.

Keep an eye on: Kimari looms as the top threat. She has won three of four heading into this showdown with her stablemate Four Wheel Drive. A'Ali (6-1), one of six European-based horses in the race, has won graded stakes in England and France.

JUVENILE TURF

Purse: $1 million

Distance: 1 mile

Favorite: Arizona, 5-2 odds

Jockey: Ryan Moore

Trainer: Aidan O'Brien

Record and earnings this year: 2 wins in 6 starts; $331,669

Irish champions O'Brien and Moore have combined to win this race four times and they return with one of Europe's leading 2-year-olds. The colt has already competed against top-level runners in England, Ireland and France, and looks like the class of this field despite drawing the far outside post in the 12-horse field.

Keep an eye on: Christophe Clement, one of the leading U.S. turf trainers, looks to break a 0-for-36 Breeders' Cup skid with Decorated Invader (4-1). The colt won the Grade 1 Summer Stakes at Woodbine. Structor (5-1) is unbeaten in two races.

JUVENILE FILLIES

Purse: $2 million

Distance: 1 1/16 miles

Favorite: Donna Veloce, 3-1 odds

Jockey: Flavien Prat

Trainer: Simon Callaghan

Record and earnings this year: 1 win in 1 start; $30,000.

A dazzling winner in her lone race at Santa Anita last month, Donna Veloce faces a stiff assignment as she steps up to face more seasoned foes. The daughter of Uncle Mo (who was undefeated as a 2-year-old) was an $800,000 purchase from a 2-year-old sale in March and can earn that back, and then some, with a victory here.

Keep an eye on: There's a trio of fillies listed as 7-2 second choices: British Idiom, Bast and Wicked Whisper. All three earned Grade 1 wins in their latest efforts, and it would not be a surprise to see one of them edge out Donna Veloce as the post-time favorite. Bast will certainly have her local backers following wins in the Debutante at Del Mar and the Chandelier at Santa Anita for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

JUVENILE FILLIES TURF

Purse: $1 million

Distance: 1 mile

Favorite: Albigna, 9-2 odds

Jockey: Shane Foley

Trainer: Jessica Harrington

Record and earnings this year: 3 wins in 4 starts; $356,371.

Talented European runner bounced back from her lone career defeat to win a Grade 1 stakes in France while stretching out to this one-mile distance over soft turf. Her biggest challenge could be the surface transition. The turf course at parched Santa Anita will be rock hard.

Keep an eye on: Daahyeh (5-1) has 3 wins and 2 seconds in her five starts. This will be her first test beyond 7 furlongs. Sweet Melania (5-1) is the co-second choice and the top North American hopeful. After two mediocre races on dirt, she picked up her game with the switch to turf and was a dominant winner most recently in the Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland for trainer Todd Pletcher.

JUVENILE

Purse: $2 million

Distance: 1 1/16 miles

Favorite: Dennis' Moment, 8-5 odds

Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

Trainer: Dale Romans

Record and earnings this year: 2 wins in 3 starts; $147,800.

Clipped the heels of a rival in his debut and dumped the rider in the lone defeat. He has been sensational ever since, posting a 19 ¼-length maiden win before capturing the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs. The Juvenile is the kickoff to next year's Triple Crown and this looks like one of the serious players on that road.

Keep an eye on: Eight Rings (2-1) has a remarkably similar profile to Dennis' Moment. He's also 2 for 3 with the lone loss coming when the jockey fell off in the Del Mar Futurity. As a result, John Velazquez picked up the mount for Bob Baffert, a union of Hall of Famers, and he has the home-field advantage in this showdown. Baffert has won this race four times, including last year with Game Winner. Storm the Court (20-1) also dumped his rider in the Del Mar Futurity and was no match for Eight Rings last time. Should be closer to the pace with addition of blinkers.

2019 Breeders' Cup Classic odds, contenders, lineup: Legendary horse racing expert reveals picks - CBS Sports

The 2019 horse racing schedule continues on Saturday with one of the richest races in the world, the 2019 Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park. The $6 million race has attracted a talented field of accomplished older horses, up-and-coming three-year-olds and even the classy five-year-old mare Elate. The Bob Baffert-trained McKinzie is the 3-1 favorite in the current 2019 Breeders' Cup Classic odds, with Code of Honor and Vino Rosso hot on his heels at 4-1. Elate and Higher Power are both listed at 6-1 Breeders' Cup odds, and six of the 11 horses in the field are at 8-1 or shorter. Post time for the 1 1/4-mile race on the Santa Anita dirt course is at 8:44 p.m. ET. With such an evenly-matched field set to enter the starting gate, you need to see the horse racing predictions from Hammerin' Hank Goldberg before making any 2019 Breeders' Cup Classic picks.

The former horse racing analyst for ESPN and NBC, Goldberg became a legendary handicapper by going straight to the source. In 2004, he had dinner before the Belmont Stakes with trainer Nick Zito at a pizzeria in Queens. The dinner led Goldberg to play Zito's 36-1 monster long shot Birdstone to win and on top of his exacta, trifecta and superfecta bets. If you had laid $300 on Goldberg's Belmont plays, you would have cashed for more than $21,000.

Goldberg got 2019 off to a strong start by nailing the Pegasus World Cup, the richest horse race in North America. He also nailed the exacta at the Gotham Stakes, Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby. Anyone who has followed Goldberg's lead has seen some huge returns.

Now, Goldberg has studied the 2019 Breeders' Cup Classic lineup and released his picks, predictions and exotic bets only at SportsLine.

We can tell you that Goldberg is fading Elate, one of the top Vegas favorites. In fact, Hammer doesn't even think the five-year-old mare hits the board. One of the co-fourth choices at 6-1 on the morning line, Elate has seven wins and seven second place finishes in 16 career starts. She is a perfect 3-for-3 at the Classic distance of 1 1/4 miles.

However, Elate has finished second in her last two races, being caught at 1 1/8 miles. In addition, her perfect record at 10 furlongs did not come against the best competition, such as fillies Escape Clause and Sneaky Betty. At the Breeders' Cup Classic 2019, Elate will face a significantly tougher field.

Instead, Goldberg is high on a huge double-digit long shot to hit the board. The Hammer is including this horse in his exotic wagers, and so should you. He's sharing which horse to back only at SportsLine.

Which horse wins the Breeders' Cup Classic 2019? Which long shot hits the board? And who finishes in the top four? Check out the latest Breeders' Cup Classic odds below, then visit SportsLine to see Goldberg's picks for the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Belle's Best Bets: Breeders' Cup Saturday Picks - America's Best Racing

America’s Best Racing, Belle Premium American Vodka, and handicapper (and avid gambler) Monique Vág team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend.

Vág will identify her top picks as well as at least one longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet. She also will occasionally look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.

Belle Premium American Vodka is the official vodka of America’s Best Racing. The American-made, American-owned vodka is distilled in Virginia, the birthplace of Thoroughbred breeding and racing in North America. The company’s mascot, Belle ‘n Tonic, broke her maiden at Laurel Park in Maryland in April 2018.

This Weekend’s Bets

Saturday, Nov. 2

Longshot Play

Santa Anita Park, Race 4, $1 Million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, 2:55 p.m. ET

#6 Bellafina: The outside post in her most recent start proved a little bit too difficult as she could never settle in and eventually faded badly in deep stretch. With her early speed she should be sent along in an attempt to dictate the pace. Although she does have wins at a mile or longer, she’s been very good sprinting and her early speed and running style should have her in a competitive spot. And she is a perfect 4-for-4 at Santa Anita Park!

Longshot Play

Santa Anita Park, Race 6, $1 Million Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, 4:10 p.m. ET

#4 Mr. Money: He seems to be rounding into form at the perfect time, winning four of his most recent five and narrowly missing in the Pennsylvania Derby last time out, losing by a neck. He is at his best working out a stalking trip, and if he is on his game he should have every opportunity to take advantage of that trip on Saturday. This mile distance looks ideal for him.

Best Bet

Aqueduct, Race 9, $150,000 Turnback the Alarm Handicap, 4:30 p.m. ET

#6 Golden Award: She should be a big favorite in here despite the two months away from a racetrack. She’s at her best when working out a stalking trip, and draws a great post position to do exactly that. Luckily for her, there is no one in here anywhere near as good as the likes of Midnight Bisou or Elate, so getting to face off against easier and dropping to take on Grade 3 company once again should be appreciated.

Best Bet

Santa Anita Park, Race 12, $6 Million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic, 8:44 p.m. ET

#10 Vino Rosso: Since the plan was instilled to get him involved in the pace scenario more often, we have seen some huge efforts. After getting disqualified from first in the Jockey Club Gold Cup due to bumping the eventual winner Code of Honor, he’s got a quick chance at a rematch just over a month later. With not a lot of horses showing much experience handling a mile and a quarter, we’ll settle on this colt who does his best racing going long.

Favorite Sports Pick of the Weekend

Saturday, Nov. 2

NCAA Football: Tulsa Golden Hurricane @ Tulane Green Wave

PICK: Tulane Green Wave –10 (-110)

Tulsa comes into this game losing four straight contests and they have posted a 2-6 overall record on the year. Their offense is only managing to put up 24.3 points a game, while their defense is surrendering 32.4 points a game.

The Tulane Green Wave have been able to put up points this year, averaging 36.3 points, and defensively have given up 25.4. They have gone 6-0 in their most recent home contests and should be able to roll and cover very comfortably.

Toronto FC expect to be fully fit, ready for "wild" MLS Cup rematch vs. Sounders - MLSsoccer.com

ATLANTA — Some matchups in sports are simply classics, sprouted from repeated championship tilts.

The National Basketball Association has Celtics vs. Lakers, who’ve met in the NBA Finals a record 12 times. There’s Dodgers vs. Yankees in Major League Baseball, who’ve met in the World Series on 11 occasions.

In MLS, one of those classic matchups in development appears to be Toronto FC vs. Seattle Sounders, who will meet in the 2019 MLS Cup final for the third time in four seasons.

“Wild, wild,” said Toronto captain Michael Bradley in a joyous visitors locker room at Mercedes-Benz Stadium following Toronto’s 2-1 win over Atlanta United Wednesday. “Obviously I was, with all due respect to Seattle, I was rooting for the other team [Tuesday] night pretty hard [LAFC, coached by his father Bob]. The fact that it plays out in Toronto-Seattle for the third time in four years should make for an interesting night.”

TFC enter MLS Cup against the Sounders in some of their best form of the last two seasons. Toronto closed the final 10 games of the regular season unbeaten — the longest such streak in the league — and have parlayed that form into three more postseason wins, the last two of which came against the Eastern Conference’s top two seeds.

“[We knew] if we could get through the summer months, get through the Gold Cup and then get our full group back together, that we'd have a real chance to put it all together in the second half of the season,” said Bradley. “Since the beginning of July when we got everybody back from the Gold Cup, we've been in a good way, and we continue to work, continue to improve, and we've got to keep that going for the next 10 days.”

If their gutsy efforts against some of the MLS elite this postseason weren’t enough reason for optimism, Toronto will be bolstered even further by key players such as Jozy Altidore and Omar Gonzalez returning from their respective injuries. Neither player made an appearance in Wednesday’s win, with Gonzalez only fit for the bench and Altidore out of the squad completely.

“It's way too early to tell, but I hope and trust that Omar will be a lot farther along and have a number of training sessions under his belt,” head coach Greg Vanney said, projecting where his injured players will be come next Sunday. “I'm very optimistic now, gaining 10 days, that Jozy will be in the fold. My hope is that we'll have options from our entire roster and we'll get everybody back and decide what's the best way to attack the game.”

Remember when Seattle hosted MLS Cup without the Sounders playing? - MLSsoccer.com

This season will not be the first time that the Seattle Sounders are hosting MLS Cup, but it will be the first time the Sounders are playing in MLS Cup at home.

Huh?

Yep, and it was a classic, too.

Real Salt Lake beat the LA Galaxy after a penalty-kick shootout in a star-studded MLS Cup 2009 featuring David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Edson Buddle, Nick Rimando, Javier Morales, Kyle Beckerman and more. USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter and LA Galaxy president Chris Klein both started for the Galaxy, too.

While we've grown accustomed to the highest remaining seed hosting MLS Cup, the league had played the final at a predetermined neutral site until 2012. Seattle still were great hosts, with more than 46,000 fans in attendance to watch the Galaxy vs. RSL.

That season was the Sounders' first in the league as they redefined expectations for an expansion side, finishing third in the Western Conference, just a point behind first place and two points behind the Supporters' Shield-winning Columbus Crew. They fell in the first round of the playoffs to Houston Dynamo, though, ending their dream of playing MLS Cup in front of their home fans.

In their previous two MLS Cup appearances, both against Toronto FC, the Canadian club had the superior regular season thus MLS Cup was played north of the border. They triumphed in 2016 but fell in 2017.

In a week and a half, though, they get to play for the cup in front of their home fans at CenturyLink Field against Toronto once again.

FiveThirtyEight forecasts MLS Cup, giving Seattle Sounders advantage over Toronto FC - MLSsoccer.com

MLS Cup is set and the projections are out for the trilogy match between Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC.

According to the folks at FiveThirtyEight, the home side are the favorites, giving the Sounders a 65% probability to lift the cup for the second time in four years. Will they deliver at CenturyLink Field?

As always, it's important to note that probabilities are just that, not certainties. FiveThirtyEight forecasted we were likely headed for an MLS Cup between LAFC and Atlanta United before Seattle and Toronto engineered a pair of upsets to get here.

Home-field advantage had been quite useful at the beginning of the playoffs, as the home side advanced in eight of the first 10 matches entering the Conference Finals before Toronto and Seattle advanced.

Emilia Clarke points finger in Game of Thrones coffee cup mystery - CNET

game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-6-daenerys-throne-face

The Mother of Dragons says it wasn't her coffee cup.

HBO

The mystery of the Game of Thrones coffee cup has percolated back up. The Mother of Dragons herself has named a new suspect responsible for leaving a coffee cup on a table in one of the final episodes of Game of Thrones season 8.

The dreaded cup.

HBO/Screenshot by CNET

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Emilia Clarke revealed that Conleth Hill, who played Varys, admitted to her at an Emmys party in September that the cup was his.

"I think that's who did it," said Clarke. "He said it. He might have been drunk, but he said it."

This twist comes after Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark, laid the blame on Clarke in May while on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Thanks to video editing, HBO was able to remove the coffee cup from the scene on HBO Go and HBO Now.

MLS Cup 101: Date, time, host, how to watch and what you need to know about 2019 final - MLSsoccer.com

MLS Cup - closeup shot - 2018
USA Today Sports Images

After eight months of regular-season action and a couple of dramatic weeks of Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs action, Major League Soccer will soon crown a champion. On Sunday, November 10, the last ball will be kicked in the 2019 season, with one team on the podium as the last remaining side after 34 regular season matches and four playoff rounds.

Below, you'll find everything you need to know ahead of the big game, as Seattle Sounders host Toronto FC in MLS Cup. Most importantly, you'll get reminders on how the routes Seattle and Toronto navigated to the biggest game of the year and how you can watch the match.

What is MLS Cup?

MLS Cup decides the Major League Soccer champion.

While LAFC won the Supporters' Shield as a reward for their regular-season supremacy and Atlanta United won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, with a magical run through the knockout tournament, MLS Cup is the big fish all clubs aspire to catch. It's the goal all 24 clubs (and counting) worked towards in 2019.

What is the matchup and how'd they get here?

It's Seattle Sounders vs. Toronto FC

Seattle

The Sounders flew below the radar thanks to LAFC's historic regular season, the drama around Zlatan Ibrahimovic's LA Galaxy and the defending champions' struggles, and trophies, with a new coach. As they have for the whole decade, it was sustained excellence all season long. Before you knew it, they were second in the Western Conference.

In the playoffs, they skirted a possible upset in an instant-classic against FC Dallas that ended 4-3 after extra time. The Sounders sprinted out to a 2-0 lead before twice allowing Dallas to come back, But in the end, Stefan Frei's heroics in the extra period gave Jordan Morris the chance to grab a winner, completing his hat trick. Brian Schmetzer's men then knocked off Real Salt Lake in a less hectic matter, a professional 2-0 win at CenturyLink Field, before going to LAFC and stunning the Supporters' Shield champs behind Raul Ruidiaz, Nico Lodeiro and a well-executed tactical plan.

Toronto

Tied 1-1 at home to D.C. United, Toronto exploded into life in extratime, scoring four goals to romp to a 5-1 win. Next up Greg Vanney's side went to New York City FC, the top seed in the East, and put on a superb first-half performance en route to a 2-1 win at Citi Field courtesy of two goals from Alejandro Pozuelo, including a late, late penalty. Toronto upset the odds once more in the Eastern Conference Final, beating defending MLS Cup champs Atlanta United 2-1, again with the help of a late goal, this time from Nick DeLeon. Making Toronto's run to MLS Cup all the more impressive, they were without star striker Jozy Altidore and USMNT defender Omar Gonzalez throughout the playoffs.

What is the format?

Winner takes all: One game for glory. Either Seattle or Toronto will lift the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy under a shower of confetti.

If the game is tied after 90 minutes, they'll play 30 more; If it's still deadlocked, then the winner will be decided by penalties, as it was in 2016 when the Sounders triumphed over Toronto FC.

How can I watch MLS Cup?

Tune in on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 pm ET. In the United States, you can watch the game on ABC, TUDN, Univision, and stream on Watch ESPN. In Canada, catch it on TSN and TVAS.

If you live outside the United States or Canada, please check the international listings page to learn where you can watch in your country.
