FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas senior William Buhl will play in the annual Jones Cup Invitational Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at the Ocean Forest Golf Club at Sea Island, Ga.
Buhl will be representing Norway. He was extended an invitation by the Jones Cup Committee on the strength of him winning the Canadian Amateur this past summer. Buhl is also 44th nationally in the Golf Stat collegiate rankings.
First contested in 2001, Jones Cup began as an opportunity to celebrate not only the game of golf but also the camaraderie and fellowship associated with it. This 54-hole individual stroke-play event is played at Ocean Forest Golf Club, designed by Rees Jones. The Jones Cup brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad for this three-day competition.
Buhl is coming off a strong fall campaign. He tied for the team lead with a 69.87 scoring average with five top 20 finishes in five events. Of his 15 rounds played, 13 were par or better. In addition to winning the Canadian Amateur last summer, Buhl repeated as the Gopher Invitational champion this last September.
