DAYTON — A 40-year-old man is accused of throwing a cup of urine on a corrections officer and is now being charged with assault.
Elijah G. Cannon was arrested Jan. 3 for violating a protection order.

A Montgomery County Jail corrections officer was in the jail with other officers assisting a different inmate when Cannon reportedly filled a cup with urine and threw it on a corrections officer, Sheriff Rob Streck said.
After Cannon threw the first cup on the corrections officer, he attempted to fill it again.
He refused multiple orders to put the cup down and deputies pepper sprayed him to get Cannon to drop the cup.

Throwing bodily fluids is dangerous and not entirely uncommon in jails, according to Streck.
Officers have taken steps to fix this problem such as building shields for nurses and officers to stand behind around people who are known to throw bodily fluids.
Cannon appeared in court Tuesday morning and received his charge for assault on a corrections officer.
