Apple Cup news: WSU destroys UW in giving challenge - CougCenter

The Washington State Cougars have a pretty terrible record of beating the Washington Huskies on the football field, especially in recent history. However, we remain undefeated when it comes to beating UW off the field.

Earlier this week, the Cougar Athletic Fund and Tyee Club unveiled the 2019 Apple Cup Giving Challenge — a contest to benefit the fundraising arms of each school’s athletic department. The premise was simple: The school with the most gifts of $25 or more would be declared the winner.

Here are the results:

  • WSU: 1,163 gifts, $236,533 raised
  • UW: 250 gifts, $55,633 raised

SUCK ON THAT ONE, HUSKIES.

For what it’s worth, I thought this was a spectacular idea by whoever came up with it. Cougs seemingly always thrive at these things — particularly when it involves beating UW — and one of CAF’s biggest challenges is getting new donors in the door.

Back in 2005, WSU raised a shade under $98,000. I’d say this year’s iteration was a smashing success.
