Shiffrin takes big 1st run lead in home World Cup slalom - The Associated Press

KILLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Mikaela Shiffrin is well set to win her home World Cup slalom for a fourth straight year, taking a big first-run lead on Sunday.

With Shiffrin seeking a record-extending 42nd win in World Cup slaloms, the race took a familiar path.

The 24-year-old American is 1.13 seconds clear of regular runner-up Petra Vlhova. Wendy Holdener has 1.74 to make up in the second run down an icy Super Star course.

No other racer was within two seconds of perhaps the most dominant slalom skier in the World Cup’s 53-year history.

A 62nd career World Cup win for Shiffrin would tie her for second on the women’s all-time list with Austrian downhill great Annemarie Moser-Proell. Lindsey Vonn, who retired this year, leads with 82 wins.

Lower-ranked racers were yet to start.
