Alison Arians and Everett Cason won Besh Cup distance races Sunday on Homer’s Lookout Mountain cross-country ski trails, with Arians winning by 16 seconds and Cason by 14 seconds.
Arians finished the women’s 10-kilometer classic in 33 minutes, 32 seconds, and Cason finished the men’s 15K in 43:17. The runner-ups were Adrianna Proffitt in the women’s race and Kai Meyers in the men’s race.
In the 5K races for younger skiers, Abigail Haas and Liam Chisholm, a pair of 16-and-under skiers, set the pace. Haas finished the girls race in 17:10 for a 13-second win over Meredith Schwartz, and Chisholm topped the boys in 16:46, seven seconds ahead of Ethan Howe.
The race was the fourth in the six-race Besh Cup series, which will determine Alaska’s team for the Junior Nationals and the Arctic Winter Games. The first two races were held in Anchorage, two were held over the weekend in Homer, and the final two are scheduled for February in Fairbanks.
